Title: Wireless LAN & VOIP Investigations

Course Aim
The aim of this course is to provide network investigators and forensic examiners with a basic technical knowledge of Wireless and VOIP communication channels. An understanding of how these channels work will provide investigators with the expertise required to discover Wireless or VOIP communications during an analysis.
Prerequisites
Prior to the commencement of the course the student should ensure that they are familiar with the following materials:
- Basic Linux shell knowledge – commands such as cd, ls, man etc
- Be familiar with the Wireshark application and how to use it
- Revise the material in the ECTEG Introductory IT Forensics & Network Investigations Course
Requirements for the course:
Each student should read and bring to the course a copy of the legal statutes that cover wireless investigation (interception and intrusion) in their jurisdictions. These legal issues will be discussed on day one of the course.
Students who possess a Personal Digital Assistant (PDA) with GPS and wireless should bring this to the course.
During the course the students will be required to create their own personal glossary for the new terms they encounter in the course.
Students are expected to have successfully participated in basic training for High Tech Crime Investigators. They will have normally completed the ECTEG Introductory IT Forensics and Network Investigations Course.
It is also highly recommended that students have also completed the ECTEG Network Investigations Course and be familiar with working within the Linux environment. Prior to commencement of the course, they should ensure that they are familiar with the following:
