ECTEG are a law enforcement cybercrime investigation training and education group. ECTEG are an official ad hoc sub group within Europol and were founded as a result of a recommendation coming from the partners to the EU Commission funded AGIS cybercrime investigation training projects.

ECTEG is managed by a Board of three Law Enforcement officers and a group of special advisors comprising of Police officers, industry specialists and academic experts.  The group meets twice per year and over the past years ECTEG has developed, piloted, delivered and distributed 14 accredited cybercrime investigation training modules to police officers throughout the EU. In addition ECTEG has provided trainers and its training material to INTERPOL and the OSCE to deliver its cybercrime investigation training outside the EU member states.

The membership of ECTEG is comprised of EU member state law enforcement agencies and Europol.

ECTEG has associate members such as; Non-EU Member State police forces, International Organisations such as; INTERPOL, UNODC, OSCE, EU Commission (Cepol, OLAF and DG Home Affairs) and the Council of Europe.

ECTEG also has private industry (e.g. Microsoft & eBay) and Academia (e.g. University College Dublin, Christchurch University Canterbury, and Université de Technologie de Troyes, France) as associate members.

Prior to the formal establishment of ECTEG, the three stakeholders, law enforcement, industry and academia, have worked closely together since 2001. ECTEG was founded in 2007 to formalise the stakeholders as a group and provide a platform within which to operate.  Europol have provided this platform for ECTEG. Europol are represented on the Board of ECTEG. They provide a meeting venue and some formal secretariat services. ECTEG have published aims, objectives and terms of reference, which are attached to this report.
